On a cold January morning,
Davis Tackle and the Christchurch Angling Club heralded
the start of a new Salmon season by organising a casting
clinic with Charles Jardine.
Charles is the Angling Director at the Countryside
Alliance and is a renowned casting demonstrator, the
event was well attended by over 40 people who braved
a very cold winter's morning. Charles soon captured
everyone’s imagination by casting to the other
bank with bank, fence and crowd immediately behind him.
Next he was casting into a head wind where my line would
have fallen into an unimpressive heap in front of me
but Charles presentation was perfect and effortless.
Where casting seems to most of us an exercise in courting
disaster and embarrassment Charles demonstration an
effortless thing of beauty, a true craftsman at work.
Then He and Dave Burgess, himself a Casting
Instructor, held a clinic where individuals received
free advice from basic to advanced on techniques. Soon
many were casting a fly line out far beyond their wildest
dreams.
Praise must also be given to the efforts of
the kind Woman who provided a free buffet and a river
of hot beverages to all who had braved the cold. Such
an event can only help everyone’s chances of having
a memorable 2005 season.
